One Month in the city, not going home ever!
Hey Ya’ll, (I miss hearing ya’ll, haha.)
So it has been about a month that I have moved to the East Coast. Somedays it feels like longer and other days it feels as if I just got here yesterday.
So to fill in everyone about my doings, as if my Instagram and snapchat post aren’t enough. (Sorry not sorry, I love to post)
I am interning for a whole sale jewelry company called Prime Time NYC. I do just about a bit of everything except I do not run coffee for anyone but myself, thank God! Of course everyone starts somewhere but I am so thankful that since day one they have made me feel like part of the team.
The company sells to brands like Forever 21, Charming Charlies, Macy’s Backstage and some Canadian brands. Currently they finished up their May Market, for those who do not know this is what it is in a gist, a week when a bunch of buyers from all over travel to the city to buy for their stores. While I am here I will be helping them get back up from the May Market storm by organizing and prepping for August Market. I like to think that I’m the designer’s right hand because that is who I mainly help. In just a short month she has allowed me to learn so much!! Each day is different; I work on Photoshop or excel making spec sheets or line sheets for product that needs to be shipped to certain stores that day. I update this master tracker on excel when new product comes in, it’s like a master inventory list. I photograph and assign style numbers to new product and so much more!
Funny story:
My first week I did typical intern duties, organize, organize, and organize. I thought this is going to be easy enough. I was super nervous I was going to have to do something I didn’t know how to do. Second day I go in and finish organizing the showroom and ask what my next task is and I’m asked if I know how to use Photoshop. I immediately blurt out “YES”! Not a complete lie, I had to take a class in college but did not become a pro by the end of it. Let’s just say I hung in by a thread all semester.
Anyways, she had me upload and take pictures of product and edit each item to all the colors needed. I had an internal panic attack cause I had no idea how to and if you know me, I hate to admit I don’t know how to do something. So I figured it out and did my best until the end of the day. I went home and binge watched how to videos on YouTube. Who knew you kept learning after college…kidding!
So moral of that story is don’t put yourself into dumb situations like me. However, I also believe to never say “no I can’t” and just figure it out! Now I constantly use it and learn more each day and have gained the skill that may open opportunities in the future.
Along with Photoshop, each day I am learning more on how to photograph jewelry. You know, I never thought I would be working with jewelry but now I think it’s a good thing to be experienced in every aspect of the fashion industry. I will be able to take this knowledge and input it into whatever I take on next. If this is how I feel in just a month, I cannot wait to see what I have learned at the end of my 3 month adventure!
More on daily life in NY and some funny stories to come. I don’t want to make my blog posts too long because I know I don’t read super long blog posts so I am assuming some of you are the same.
XOXO,
